Ever wondered why Texas is called the Lone Star state? You can clearly find the answer in the Texas flag. The Texas flag features a single star in its design. The flag is also made up of a horizontal white stripe above a red horizontal stripe and a blue vertical stripe on the left side of the flag. You can find the single 5 pointed star in the center of the blue vertical stripe. There are many variations as to what the lone star symbolizes. Some say that it represented Texas as the lone state of Mexico that attempted to fight for its rights. Others, on a lighter note, say that the lone star represented the wish of the Texan people to achieve statehood in the US. The state has specified proportions for the flag having a ratio of width to length as 2:3.
You can observe that the colors in the Texas flag are also the three basic national colors of the USA. And each of the three colors has different meanings; white for purity, blue for patriotism and loyalty, and red for bravery. The colors in the Texas flag are very symbolic in nature as they tell of the rich history of the state of Texas. The present flag is actually the official flag of the Republic of Texas in 1839, and then it became the Texas State Flag in 1845. In 1993, it was adopted to be the official flag of Texas after revisions were made as to how it was to be presented.
In every country, a flag represents its people and history. And the Texas flag is not any exception to this truism. As it has been revised a couple of times, and with every revision symbolizing different times, surely the flag of Texas has a rich past tied to its inhabitants.
